Rogue effect productions 2010
ROGUE EFFECT productions
Young Urban Arts has been working with a group of young people from across Dublin City to co produce a multi media performance. 15 young people (16-21yrs), who have recently called themselves "Rogue Effect", have been attending production meetings since January 2010. They have been devising a play in collaboration with writer Tom Swift which will be ready by April 2010. Director, Louise Lowe is also working with the group to help them to bring their script to the stage in July 2010.
Rogue Effect developed in response to the desire of Young Urban Arts to put young people at the centre of their programme. The young production team were brought together from the first conception of the idea and have been involved in the shaping and direction of the project ever since.
By upholding an open and collaborative process throughout the project, the aim is to create a forum where young peoples ideas and voices can be truly heard. As well as taking on shared responsibility in the shaping and delivery of the programme, they also benefit from the mentorship of professionals in the field. By being involved in all aspects of a project of this nature e.g budget, feasibility, time constraints, availability etc., the learning opportunities for the group is immense. Rogue Effect aims to be a positive experience for all those involved and aims to reinforce the importance of compromise and commitment in any creative process.
Through previous projects, Young Urban Arts experienced an innate talent and hunger for film making and new media by young people across the city. While on one hand this was a great discovery, on the other hand it identified a gap. There seemed to be very little opportunities for young people, in a youth work context, to get involved in theatre or live performances. There was also a lack of opportunities for young people to platform their artistic achievements, which seemed especially apparent in regards to music.
Rogue Effect is using story as a way to bring different art forms and young people from across the city together. Many of the young people involved have little or no previous experience with live performance.
In order to get more young people involved, a series of Master classes, one in February and one in March were offered out through youth projects across the city.
These were in animation, character development, physical theatre and music making.
In addition to this, a call out through youth projects for music for the soundtrack will take place in April.
The performance is due to take place on Saturday, 3rd July at The Complex, Smithfield.
Rogue Effect would like to acknowledge the support of The Digital Hub.
